What 5G offers

Our 5G service offers real-time responsiveness, consistent connections, and robust stability, at average speeds of 150-200Mbps, and peak speeds will reach above 1Gbps.

You can also connect multiple devices to the internet, and use remote, cloud-based services far easier.

5G coverage

This connectivity option is being rolled out across South Africa, having already begun in areas of Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Free State and the Western Cape.

To see if 5G is available in your area, please use our Coverage map.

5G technologies

Our 5G is available on Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) and a dedicated 5G broadcast spectrum.

5G speeds supported on DSS may not be as high as 5G speeds on the dedicated spectrum.

5G access

Even if you are in an area with 5G coverage, you need a 5G-enabled device or router on a qualifying price plan to access the 5G network.

5G plans

5G-ready handsets and routers are available on the following plans: Made For Me, Sky and MyMTN Home 5G data plans

5G versus 4G

5G lets you stream and download far quicker than on a 4G network. The main difference, however, is that 5G will offer better coverage with guaranteed connection speeds.

5G enables immersive experiences through virtual reality, augmented reality and 3D technologies.

5G speeds

5G is approximately 10 times faster than 4G and will work at average speeds of 150-200Mbps, and peak speeds will reach above 1Gbps.

These speeds can vary, though, and depend on multiple factors, such as:

How far away you are from a mast
The spectrum being used
The number of people around you using 5G

Fair use policies

To ensure fair use on our network, your maximum download and upload speed will be adjusted if you consume more data in the specific month than the “FUP (Fair Usage Policy) limit” of your selected plan.
