1. Buy a data bundle by dialling *141*2*163#

2. Activate MTN DataShare by dialling *141*5#

3. Select option 4 “Manage Data Bundles”

4. Then select option 2 “DataShare”. Here you can link and de-link numbers

For contract, TopUp or My MTNChoice customers:

1. Visit your nearest MTN store or phone the MTN call centre on 808 to activate DataShare

2. Dial *141*5#

3. Select option 4 “Manage Data Bundles”

4. Then select option 2 “DataShare”. Here you can link and de-link numbers

Alternatively

1. Go to www.mtn.co.za

2. Register on “My Profile” and select the option on the dropdown box called “My Contract Account”

What is MTN Data Share?

MTN DataShare is a value added service offering that enables customers to share data from one main account holder’s bucket to nominated/linked MTN numbers.

How to I activate MTN DataShare?

For PayAsYouGo customers:

1. Buy a data bundle by dialling *141*2*163#

2. Activate MTN DataShare by dialling *141*5#

3. Select option 4 “Manage Data Bundles”

4. Then select option 2 “DataShare”. Here you can link and de-link numbers

For contract, TopUp or My MTNChoice customers:

1. Visit your nearest MTN store or phone the MTN call centre on 808 to activate DataShare

2. Dial *141*5#

3. Select option 4 “Manage Data Bundles”

How does the DataShare service work?

The main account holder who is a PayAsYouGo or Contract customer must activate the MTN DataShare service through the relevant channel. Once the service is activated he/she must dial *141*5# to link or de-link MTN numbers he/she wants to share data with. Once this step is completed, you can start using data from one bucket.

Will the there be a charge for using or activating the MTN DataShare service?

No, the MTN DataShare service is free.

Who is MTN DataShare available to?

MTN DataShare is available to all MTN PayAsYouGo, TopUp, Classic Contract and My MTNChoice customers.

Can MTN Sky contract customers activate MTN DataShare?

No, unfortunately MTN Sky contract customers cannot activate this service.

Can an MTN Sky bundle customer activate MTN DataShare?

Yes, if you are an MTN Sky bundle customer, you are able to activate MTN DataShare, but you will only be allowed to link one other user.

From which bucket can the main account holder share their data?

Inclusive data, once-off data bundles and monthly data bundles can all be shared.

If the inclusive data or data bundle is depleted, will the linked users get charged Out-of-Bundle rates?

No, linked users will not be able to use data from the main account holder once the inclusive data or data bundle is depleted. The main account holder can load a data bundle to fill up the bucket.

How many numbers can be linked to the data bucket, and can non-MTN numbers also be linked?

You can link up to 20 numbers to one data bucket, and they have to be on the MTN network so tell your friends and family to move to MTN today.

Will I be charged for linking users?

No, this service is free.

If I was selected by the main account holder to share from his/her data bucket and no longer want to share from this bucket, could I de-link myself?

Yes, by dialing *141*5#, however you cannot re-link to the bucket by yourself. This will have to be done by the main account holder.

Is the main account holder the only person that link users?

Yes

Can the main account holder or linked users deplete from one data bucket concurrently?

Yes, everyone can use the data from one bucket at the same time.

If I am a linked user and I have my own data bundle, will it deplete before the DataShare bundle/value?

The DataShare bundle / value will always deplete first. If you are a linked user and you would like to make use of your own data value, you will need to de-link yourself first. If you then want to link back, you will have to ask the main account holder to re-link your number to make use of the DataShare value again. If the main account holder or the linked user has a bundle for specific usage such as: MTN FrontRow, simfy Streaming or an Internet Service, these bundles will deplete as per normal and will not be part of the DataShare bucket.
