Wi-Fi Calling lets you use your phone as you normally would, which means:

Where there is limited cellular network coverage, you can make calls using your home or a public Wi-Fi network.

No additional software needed, call any number locally and internationally with Wi-Fi Calling.

Your device will switch automatically to the most suitable network reception and support high-quality voice calls.

How it works.

With Wi-Fi Calling, you connect to any available Wi-Fi network you have access to, which will then work like a standard cellular signal or a 4G (LTE) connection.

Your calls will seamlessly switch to the strongest available signal, without ever interrupting the conversation.

Currently, Wi-Fi Calling is only available on Android devices.

To set up Wi-Fi Calling.

Choose Settings from your handset menu

Tap Wireless & networks and then choose Mobile Network

Choose Wi-Fi calling

Tap the greyed-out Wi-Fi Calling button, and then set Mode as Wi-Fi Preferred

If you set Mode as LTE preferred, your handset will automatically only use LTE to make and receive calls.

Note: To turn off Wi-Fi Calling, repeat steps 1 to 4, disabling Wi-Fi Calling in Step 4.

Tap Mobile Network and then choose Call settings

Choose Wi-Fi calling

  • What is Wi-Fi Calling Show

    Wi-Fi Calling allows users on our network with a Wi-Fi Calling-capable handset to use a Wi-Fi network in their home or office to receive and make calls.
  • Is Wi-Fi Calling different from other applications that allow me to make calls, such as Skype or WhatsApp? Show

    Yes, when using Wi-Fi Calling on our network, no additional software is required. Instead, calls are received and made just like you would normally by using your handset’s dialler.
  • What does it cost to subscribe to Wi-Fi Calling? Show

    There are no additional subscription charges for Wi-Fi Calling.
  • What does it cost to make calls using Wi-Fi Calling? Show

    The charges for making calls are the same as the call rates on your selected price plan.
  • What does it cost to receive calls using Wi-Fi Calling? Show

    There are no charges for receiving calls when using Wi-Fi Calling.
  • I intend travelling abroad, can I use Wi-Fi Calling while roaming? Show

    Wi-Fi Calling is not enabled for Roaming. Please ensure that you have activated International Roaming to use services like calling, texting and data when abroad.
  • How do I know if Wi-Fi Calling is activated on my service? Show

    If you see a Wi-Fi feature on your handset’s settings display, at the top of your handset’s screen or your handset’s dialler you can use Wi-Fi Calling.
  • Why is Wi-Fi Calling an important feature? Show

  • I have activated Wi-Fi Calling on my handset, yet I can still not connect, what could be wrong? Show

    Wi-Fi Calling connects to our network using the internet. In some instances, an Internet Service Provider may block the connection type used by Wi-Fi Calling. Our servers also consider the connection quality and may reject Wi-Fi Calling if the bandwidth is insufficient.

  • I no longer wish to use Wi-Fi Calling, can MTN switch this feature off? Show

    You activate or deactivate Wi-Fi Calling on your handset, giving you the freedom to choose when and how you use the service.
  • Can I use Wi-Fi calling on an Android device? Show

    If your handset offers Wi-Fi Calling, then yes, you can use this feature.
    Please see the setup user guide to determine whether the feature is available on your handset. Different handsets permit different features, and the handset manufacturer determines this.
  • I have an Apple device; can I use Wi-Fi calling? Show

    Support for Wi-Fi Calling on Apple devices (iOS) is still being finalised but will launch soon.
